Damage Assessment in Indonesia: the Varnish Machine

Share Us On

The manufacturing landscape of Indonesia witnessed a significant incident. A fire erupted at a prominent facility, centering around a specialized varnish machine designed for applying ultraviolet (UV) coatings. Discovered during the early morning hours, the fire was swiftly contained using portable fire extinguishers and a water hydrant. Investigations revealed that the UV coating section of the machine was the origin of the fire.

Engaging Experts for a Thorough Damage Assessment in Indonesia

In the wake of the fire, AGI was commissioned to undertake a meticulous damage assessment in Indonesia for the affected varnish machine. Their mission was clear: provide an in-depth evaluation of the damage and offer actionable recommendations for the company’s next steps.

On-Site Inspection: A Closer Look

A few days post-incident, AGI embarked on an on-site visit to the facility. Their agenda included engaging discussions with key personnel, a hands-on inspection of the fire-affected machine, and a thorough documentation of their findings, supplemented with photographs.

Machine at a Glance

The varnish machine under scrutiny was an intricate apparatus, comprising six main components:

  1. Stream Feeder
  2. UV Coating System
  3. Hot Air/IR Drying Unit
  4. UV Curing Unit
  5. Cool Air Unit
  6. Delivery Unit

Assessment Findings: The Verdict

The damage assessment unveiled varying degrees of damage across the machine:

  1. The Stream Feeder was primarily affected by the extinguishing media and was deemed restorable.
  2. The UV Coating System bore significant damage, necessitating a complete replacement.
  3. Both the Hot Air & Drying Unit and UV Curing Unit suffered extensive damage, leading to recommendations for their replacement.
  4. The Cool Air Unit and Delivery Unit remained largely unscathed and were deemed restorable with precision decontamination.

After a thorough assessment of the varnish machine, which functions as an integrated system, it was determined that certain sections were restorable through thorough decontamination and dehumidification. The parts that were beyond repair were promptly replaced. Thanks to these strategic interventions, the machine was swiftly brought back to optimal operation, resulting in a substantial saving for the insurer, nearly amounting to USD 190,000.
